Written by Catherine Hayford | Hayford Marketing LLC | Columbus, Ohio Why I Use Claude Instead of ChatGPT, and Why AI Will Never Replace a Real Person People ask me about AI all the time. Should they use it. Which one. Does it mean they can stop paying a marketing person. So let me be straight with you, the way I always am. Yes, I use AI every day. I am not going to hide that, and I am not going to bill you for hours I did not spend. And no, it will never replace the person who answers the phone. Both of those things are true at the same time. The AI I chose is Claude, made by Anthropic. I have tried ChatGPT. It is a capable tool and plenty of good people use it. But Claude is the one I kept coming back to, and I want to tell you honestly why. 1. It Tells Me When I Am Wrong This is the big one for me. When I ask Claude for something that is a bad idea, it says so. It does not just nod along and hand me what I asked for. I have had it tell me a headline was overselling, or that an angle would not hold up if a customer looked into it. I would rather hear that in a draft than hear it from a client. A tool that only agrees with you is not helping you. It is just a very fast yes man, and I have never had much use for those. 2. Its Principles Line Up With Mine I built this company on honesty and integrity. No long term contracts. No upsells. No hidden fees. You own your website and your domain from day one, because they are yours. So when I pick a tool, I want one built by people who seem to care about the same things. Anthropic is public about how they train Claude and what they will and will not let it do. They publish it. You can go read it. That kind of openness matters to me. I do not want to hand my clients work that came out of a black box I do not understand. You can call that a small thing. To me it is the whole thing. 3. It Writes Like a Person, Not a Press Release Warm. Plain. Conversational. I spend far less time stripping the corporate stiffness out of a draft. And when I say short sentences, no jargon, keep it readable for someone with dyslexia, it actually listens and does it. Every time. 4. It Is Steady on the Long, Detailed Work Marketing is not one clever sentence. It is a website, then an email, then a mailer, then a hundred social posts, all of them needing to sound like the same business. Claude holds that thread. That is most of what this job really is. But Try Both. Seriously. I am telling you my preference, not handing you a rule. Both have free versions. Use whichever one fits how your brain works. If ChatGPT clicks for you, use ChatGPT. I would rather you use the tool that actually helps you than the one I happen to like. That is what I mean by teaching instead of selling. Especially If You Are Wired a Little Differently A lot of the owners I work with have ADHD or dyslexia, or they just never liked writing. AI has been a real gift for them. It gets the first draft out of your head so you are editing instead of staring at a blank screen. Pair it with Speechify or Grammarly and the part of running a business that always felt impossible starts to feel doable. That is not cheating. That is using the right tool. Now Here Is the Part Nobody Wants to Say Out Loud AI does not know your customer Debbie who has come in every Saturday for eleven years. It does not hear the hesitation in a prospect voice and know to slow down. It cannot shake a hand, remember a birthday, or pick up the phone when something goes sideways at four o clock on a Friday. Business runs on relationships. It always has. Richard Abraham wrote a whole book about it called Mr. Shmooze, and the idea has not aged a day. People buy from people they trust. A tool can help you say it. A tool cannot be it. Think of It Like a Nail Gun A nail gun does not make you a carpenter. It makes a carpenter faster. The skill was never in swinging the hammer. It is knowing what to build and where it goes. AI can write you a hundred social posts. It cannot tell you whether any of them are the right thing to say to your customers, in your town, this month. That judgment comes from experience. Mine comes from thirty five years of it. Use the Tool. Keep the Human. Let AI draft the email. Let it fix the spelling. Let it help you get unstuck at eleven at night when the words will not come. Then pick up the phone. Send the card. Walk next door and introduce yourself. That is the part that grows a business, and no software will ever do it for you. When you call Hayford Marketing, a real person answers. Every single time. That is me. Because it pushes back when I am wrong, it follows detailed instructions carefully, it writes in a natural human voice, and the company behind it is open about how it is built. My business runs on honesty and integrity, and I want my tools built the same way. That is my preference, not a rule. Try both and use what works for you. Can AI replace hiring a marketing agency in Columbus, Ohio? It can replace some of the typing. It cannot replace strategy, local knowledge, or the relationship. AI does not know that Reynoldsburg is not Gahanna, or why that difference changes who you should be talking to. Do you use AI on my marketing, and does that lower my price? Yes and yes. I am upfront that AI is part of my workflow. It makes me faster, and that shows up in honest pricing instead of padded invoices. What you pay for is judgment, strategy, and a real person who answers the phone. I have ADHD or dyslexia. Can AI really help me run my business? Yes, and it is one of the best uses for it. It removes the blank page problem and handles the writing that drains you, so your energy goes to the work you are actually great at. Many of my Central Ohio clients are neurodiverse and we build their systems around how they really work. Real Solutions. Real People. Real Prices.
